Acupressure for back pain and relaxation with the Osteomat
A couple of years ago I used to enjoy
getting acupuncture every few weeks. At the time it was to try and
regulate my hormones, but one of the other beneficial side effects was
the relaxation I felt during sessions.
When I heard about the Osteomat,
which stimulates acupressure points in a similar way to acupuncture, I
was intrigued. The Osteomat is a like a modern bed of nails. Each mat is
covered with hundreds of sharp points which stimulate pressure points
in the back. This has several beneficial effects including:
- Release of pain and inflammatory reducing hormones
- Release of muscle tension and spasm
- Promotion of blood circulation
- Reduction in stress
- Blocking the pain messages to the central nervous system
- improved sleep and relief from insomnia
- relief from joint pain caused by osteoarthritis
You can also use the mat by pressing in
to your skin, placing your feet on top of it (I’m actually doing that
right now and it feels so good!) or using it on top of a seat and
sitting down on it.
The mat is uniquely designed so that
it’s portable therefore you can use it at work or after a workout in the
gym. There are two options, one with small handles, the Osteomat
Classic:
As well as a mat with a long shoulder strap, the Osteomat Sport :
I think some great ways to use it would include:
- Post workout – the mat would be really relaxing and would stimulate post workout muscle recovery
- During savasana at the end of a yoga workout – this is so deliciously relaxing!
- At work – you could place the mat under your desk for your feet, or on your office chair
- In the morning and evening – during snooze time or wind down time lie back on the mat in bed
I’ve been using the
mat like a mini self care ritual. I try and leave it out at the side of
my desk as a reminder to take a 5 minute break on work days. I also
love it after yoga!
I really am in love it with, it’s surprising just how relaxing it is to use. It feels almost like a massage while lying still!
At £49, I think the Osteomat is good
value. It’s very well made and you could certainly get a lot of use out
of it. It’s CE marked and registered as a medical device, so you are
assured of it’s quality. It could save you the cost of repeated
acupuncture sessions, or act as a ’top up’ between sessions as well.
It’s a brilliant chemical free way to address back and neck pain,
headaches and stress. You can find out more about the Osteomat their website.
Keep an eye on my You Tube channel for a live review and the blog in the next few weeks for a giveaway too!
Have you ever tried the Osteomat? Would you be interested in giving one a go?
